‘Freedom Song’ by Katy Carr (Providence)

Freedom Song’ is written by Katy Carr and was released on Katy Carr’s most recent album Providence. This song is dedicated to the long fight that Poland had to make to become an independent nation and the long and arduous journey she has had to endure – the centuries of unforgettable violence, slaughter, brutal aggression and theft of her lands by the main aggressors – Russia, Germany and the Austro Hungarian Empire . Between 1795-1918 Poland was erased off the map of Europe.
After WWI Poland regained her independence for a successful but short lived 21 years until the beginning of her imprisonment again by Germany and Russia for two reigns of terror during WWII (1939-1945) followed by the 50 years of the Cold War, Stalin’s tortuous regime and administration which lasted post WWII to its official termination in 1991.
This song is dedicated to the brave people of Ukraine, my friends and family who are fighting for their ‘Freedom’ in 2022 – the 21st Century. I also want to pay tribute and thank the incredible humanitarian effort of Poland and the Polish people who have taken into their homes nearly 3 million refugees since the war began on 24th Feb 2022, a day none of us will ever forget.
The kindness and sharing and love from Poland and the Polish nation to Ukraine in their darkest hour is so beautiful and inspiring. The sharing of resources, compassion, forgiveness and understanding despite a shared and turbulent history is also heartwarming and inspirational.
