This Aktywny Dialog workshop is dedicated to the memory of Jadwiga Zarzycka, a Sybiraczka whose life represents the profound suffering endured by Polish families deported to Siberia during the Soviet occupation. Held in the 85th anniversary year of the mass deportations, the workshop invites participants to reflect on the brutal reality faced by Poles who were forcibly removed from their homes and transported deep into the Soviet interior under Russian aggression.

Jadwiga Zarzycka’s story mirrors the experiences of thousands who survived the freezing cattle wagons, starvation, disease, and the relentless demands of slave labour imposed in Siberian settlements and labour camps. These deportations shattered communities, separated families, and subjected innocent civilians including women, children, and the elderly to inhumane conditions designed to break their spirit. Yet, despite unimaginable hardship, the Sybiracy preserved their identity, faith, and humanity.

Through guided discussion, historical materials, and shared testimony, this workshop honours Jadwiga’s legacy and ensures that her story and the stories of all who suffered remain part of our collective memory. Participants will explore the broader context of Soviet repression, the long‑term impact of forced exile, and the importance of safeguarding historical truth for future generations. This session stands as a reminder of resilience, remembrance, and the enduring strength of the Polish community.
