❤️ A BIG THANK YOU Celebrating Polish Independence Day with a Double Dose of Music and Heritage in Belfast! 🇵🇱🎶✨
What an incredible day it was on November 9th, as we celebrated Polish Independence Day in Belfast with not one, but two unforgettable concerts! The festivities kicked off at the Polish Saturday School in Belfast (Polska Szkoła Sobotnia w Belfaście), where I had the immense pleasure of performing for the children. The Akademia Żaka ceremony was led by the wonderful teacher Anna Sułek, with key contributions from Ewa Kolakowska, Chairperson of PECA, and Beata Dąbrowska, Director of the Polish Saturday School in Belfast. The ceremony was a beautiful celebration of Polish heritage, and Paddy McAllister, Principal of Holy Rosary Primary School in Belfast, and The Very Rev Dr. Frank Sellar DL, representing The Lord Lieutenant, graced us with their presence.
I performed a variety of songs that celebrated Polish culture and history. We began with the Polish National Anthem, a powerful and unifying song. “Painting the Clouds with Sunshine / A Ja Sobie Gram na Gramofonie” set a cheerful tone with its ukulele and vocal arrangement. “Mala Little Flower” honored Irena Gut Opdyke, a Righteous Among the Nations, with a heartfelt piano and voice tribute. “Alicja”, inspired by Chopin, brought classical elegance to the performance. The haunting “Polish Song – Dziś do Ciebie Przyjść Nie Mogę”, known as the Partisans’ Lullaby, and “Motylek”, inspired by Polish WWII pilots, both paid homage to Poland’s resilience. “Hanka Ordonówna – Miłość Ci Wszystko Wybaczy”, performed a cappella, celebrated the interwar musical star Ordonka. “Kommander’s Car” told the gripping tale of Kazik Piechowski’s escape from Auschwitz, while “Wojtek”, dedicated to the famous bear, added a unique historical touch. The moving “Czerwone Maki na Monte Cassino” honored Polish soldiers, and “Polonia”, inspired by Elgar and Paderewski’s friendship, made for a memorable encore. We concluded with “We’ll Meet Again”, Dame Vera Lynn’s iconic WWII hit, leaving the audience with a sense of hope and unity.
As the sun set, we moved to Malone House for a second concert hosted by the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Belfast. The evening was just as magical, with the Polish community coming together to celebrate our rich heritage with two spectacular performances in one day! During this event, I had the pleasure of meeting the current Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Andrew McCormick. He shared a touching message on Instagram, saying: “We had an amazing evening at the 102nd anniversary of the independence of Poland. One of the highlights of tonight was listening to Katy’s amazing and beautiful songs. There’s so much history, culture, and heritage ingrained within such incredible melodies amplified by such a beautiful voice. She really brought the story of Poland and everything that Poland has achieved throughout history, and their contribution to the success of the Second World War along with the Allied forces—an incredible story told through the power of music. It was a real pleasure to meet Katy.”
I was also honored by the presence of several distinguished guests: Alderman Beth Adger MBE, Mayor of East and Mid Antrim; Alistair Cathcart, Councillor and Lord Mayor of Ards and North Down Borough Council; Roy Crawford, Councillor of Fermanagh and Omagh District; Kurtis Dickson, Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council; Eugene McConnell, Councillor and Chair of the Mid Ulster Council; Patricia Perry, High Sheriff of County Antrim; Pauline Shields OBE, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim; and Anthea Smith, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of The County Borough of Belfast. These events were not just about music; they were about community, culture, and the enduring spirit of Poland. I deeply value everyone’s contributions to making these events so special. A special thank you to Beata Dąbrowska, Director of the Polish Saturday School, and to Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Belfast, Mirosław Sycz, for their incredible support. It was a weekend filled with joy, remembrance, and the beautiful integration of Polish culture into the Belfast community. I would love to return to Belfast and continue sharing these meaningful moments with you all.
🇵🇱🌹On the occasion of the 106th anniversary🇵🇱🌹 of Poland’s regaining independence, we wish you all the best. Let’s celebrate our regained independence, share it with others, and ensure our future generations continue to celebrate it. May this Day bring joy to all and remind us of the strength and unity of our nation. 🇵🇱 Polish Independence Day 🇵🇱 11th of November 1918 🇵🇱🌹🇵🇱🌹🇵🇱🌹🇵🇱🌹🇵🇱🌹🇵🇱🌹🇵🇱🌹🇵🇱🌹#PolishIndependenceDay #PolskaSzkola #Belfast #KatyCarrMusic #LiveConcert #PolishHeritage #CelebrateTogether

✨✨WE REMEMBER ✨✨
23rd Nov 2024 🇺🇦**THE HOLODOMOR GENOCIDE ** 🇺🇦The Holodomor (“extermination/death by hunger” in Ukrainian) destroyed Ukraine and murdered 12 million Ukrainians through forced starvation nearly one-fifth of the country’s population was lost. The dreadful famine that engulfed Ukraine, the northern Caucasus, and the lower Volga River area in 1932-1933 was the result of Joseph Stalin’s policy of forced collectivization. The heaviest losses occurred in Ukraine, which was the most productive agricultural area of the Soviet Union. Stalin was determined to crush all vestiges of Ukrainian culture, identity and patriotism and stole ALL the food and even soil from the people of Ukraine. The famine was accompanied by a devastating purge of Ukrainian intelligentsia and the Ukrainian elite. The famine broke the peasants’ will to resist collectivisation and left Ukraine politically, socially, and psychologically traumatised.
