History note on St Nicholas Day – In GB it’s believed that Santa Claus arrives in the night on the 24th of December however in Poland Saint Nicholas comes with presents for Dzien Świętego Mikołaja or Mikołajki on the 6th December. Mikołaj is the Polish name for Nicholas. This festive holiday honours Saint Nicholas who was a 4th century Bishop of Myra in Lycia, which is in modern day Turkey. This saint was known for his secret gift giving, which is why he is often associated with Santa Claus.

THANK YOU LONDON ! and The Polish Educational Society – Director Ela Barrass and Anita Gajda Administrator Polska Macierz Szkolna for hosting a concert at the POSK – The Polish Social and Cultural Association on 25th Nov 2023 and inviting schools from Ravenscourt Park, Coventry and Bedford. Thank you to Bartek and Artur @ POSK for the technical support androom hire.
With the students at the Jazz Cafe at the POSK, Hammersmith.

Helping the students to learn the lyrics of the songs in Polish and the historical meaning and relevance of the songs. If the students are not confident in either the English or Polish language I encourage them to think about translating words in my songs. I was very impressed that with encouragement the students learn pretty fast and are hungry to learn about the history of Poland. My workshops are often the first time the students have had exposure to WWII history. My dream is to bring a fresh approach to Polish history across all Polish Saturday Schools at home in Poland and globally because “A nation which does not know its past, withers and cannot build a future” St John Paul II“A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots” Marcus Garvey

WE REMEMBER SHANE MCGOWAN RIP ✨Shane Patrick Lysaght MacGowan RIP was an Anglo-Irish musician who was best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter of Celtic punk band the Pogues. Many of his songs were influenced by Irish nationalism, Irish history, the experiences of the Irish diaspora, and London life in general. Sending my heartfelt condolences to my friend and neighbour Shanne Bradley who was Shane McGowan’s musical inspiration and soulmate for the early part of his life pictured below and gave him his first musical platform in the 1970s early 80s in her band The Nipple Erectors. Shane’s songs A Pair of Brown Eyes and The Pogues A Rainy Night In Soho were both written about Shanne and Shane’s artistic and romantic legacy. The world has lost a great songwriter, poet and artist whose songs will forever live on in our hearts…

‘…In blood and death neath a screaming sky   I lay down on the ground   And the arms and legs of other men   Were scattered all around   Some cursed, some prayed, some prayed then cursed   Then prayed and bled some more   And the only thing that I could see   Was a pair of brown eyes that was looking at me   But when we got back, labeled parts one to three   There was no pair of brown eyes waiting for me   And a rovin, a rovin, a rovin I’ll go   For a pair of brown eyes… ‘Lyrics from the song ‘A Pair of Brown Eyes’ by Shane McGowan RIP
