Katy Carr speaks with US Film maker Mary Skinner in a series of meetings to discuss the war zone in Ukraine from an artistic and personal perspective. ‘Behind the Lyrics’ is a series where Katy explains the inspiration of her favourite songs. In this episode, Katy Carr performs her song ‘Wojtek the Soldier Bear’ which she wrote in 2012 for her album ‘Paszport’ inspired by all the Polish people who lost their right to have a Polish passport during and after WWII. Wojtek was a Syrian brown bear (1942 – 2nd December 1963) and was the mascot of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps. The bear helped move crates of ammunition with the Polish soldiers, contributing to the war effort and a Polish victory at The Battle of Monte Cassino on 18th May 1944. After the war he was billeted and lived out the rest of his life at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. This series of talks celebrates Poland and Ukraine’s friendship as brothers and sisters in arms and we want to share our love for Ukraine and to let our friends and family know that we are thinking of them and sending our love at this darkest of hours. #WeStandWithUkraine For more info on the artists visit the below links : WEBSITES Katy Carr website: https://katycarr.com https://www.facebook.com/KatyCarrMusic Mary Skinner – https://www.irenasendlerfilm.com https://www.facebook.com/IrenaSendler SHOP HERE Order Katy’s Albums Paszport – Polonia -Providence https://katycarr.com/shop/ Order Mary’s film ‘Irena Sendler – In the Name of Their Mothers’ https://vimeo.com/ondemand/318438 DONATE to Ukrainian Humanitarian Aid Fund here: On the 24th of February 2022, Russia started a premeditated, unjustified, and unprovoked war against Ukraine.
