Katy Carr speaks with US Film maker Mary Skinner in a series of meetings to discuss the war zone in Ukraine from an artistic and personal perspective. This fourth meeting discusses Mary’s inspiration for creating the film ‘In The Name of their Mother’s’ inspired by her friendship with Irena Sendler (Irena Stanisława Sendler) also referred to as Irena Sendlerowa in Poland, nom de guerre Jolanta who was a Polish humanitarian, social worker, and nurse who served in the Polish Underground Resistance during World War II in German-occupied Warsaw. This meeting also gives a salute to the bravery of Poles during WWII in Warsaw and those Poles with Jewish roots who fought so bravely for freedom and country in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising on 19th April 1943. Katy performs the song Dziś do Ciebie przyjść nie mogę or Kołysanka – The Partisan’s Lullaby which is a World War II “partisan” song from occupied Poland. Both lyrics and music were written in 1943 by Stanisław Magierski, a pharmacist from Lublin and a member of the Polish Resistance, the Polish Home Army – Armia Krajowa.
