BELFAST NORTHERN IRELAND
It was with great honour that I was invited to Belfast in Northern Ireland for a shared history project by the For Your Freedom and Ours Graduation event integrating the Belfast communities and Polish heritage at Ballynafeigh Orange Hall for their members and the Polish community. Music united us all together – myself, Katy Carr, a British songwriter with Polish roots with new fans and friends of the Ballynafeigh Orange Hall members.
My new friend and fan from Belfast below 🙂
I sang ‘It’s a Long Way To Tipperary / Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag‘ with the Ballynafeigh Apprentice Boys.
Everybody in the room listened to the beautiful songs from the Allied Freedom fighters of Poland during WWII including The Partisan’s Lullaby – ‘Dziś do Ciebie przyjść nie mogę‘ and ‘Czerwone Maki na Monte Cassino’ ‘The Red Poppies on Monte Cassino‘ in honour of the Polish Victory at Monte Cassino on 18th May 1944 and all the Allied forces that had fought at the Battle.
After the concert we were invited to try the most incredible selection of Polish and British cakes, scones, sausage rolls (the best I have ever eaten). Big thanks to Noel for all your baking! The food was INCREDIBLE ! It was lovely to see the British and Polish flag on stage for the first time at Orange Hall 🙂
Below with the graduates of the project 🙂 Congratulations everybody!
Below foto and with special thanks to Maciek Bator at maciek@foryourfreedomandours.

Maciek wrote this great write up after the event :
We would like to share a few memories from yesterday’s #FYFO Shared History Programme Graduation event with the Ballynafeigh Orange Hallmembers. For over six weeks, a group of 20 participants took part in the shared history programme discovering links between #Poland and Northern Ireland through stories of Polish Airmen who were based in Northern Ireland during #WWII. Last night, the participants received certificates of completion and Polish checkboard badges presented by Jerome Mullen – Polish Honorary Consul to Northern Ireland. A fantastic joint performance between British/Polish singer, Katy Carr and the Ballynafeigh Apprentice Boys provided a very unique and enjoyable cultural experience. A tour of the building about the history of the Ballynafeigh Orange Lodge was available for guests. For the first time in Northern Ireland, a Polish flag was on display at the Orange Hall building. Taking this opportunity, we would like to thank our project partners and all involved, especially Noel Liggett and the Ballynafeigh Orange Hall members for participating in the programme and for the warm hospitality last night. It was a real privilege to work with you all and we believe this is just the beginning of a long lasting relationship. This programme was kindly supported by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.#SharedHistory #GoodRelations #NIHE
WE REMEMBER – Pamiętamy those who fought FOR OUR FREEDOM AND YOURS at The Battle of Monte Cassino, 1944
performed a special selections of songs on a Steinway Grand Piano as played by the Polish composer Ignacy Paderewski. It was a great honour to play in the same building as Paderewski’s passport and music exhibiton.
