We wtorek 22 listopada 2011 w galerii Kuriera Plusodbyło się spotkanie poetów nowojorskiego Klubu Telimena podczas, którego wystąpiła z recitalem młoda brytyjska piosenkarka Katy Carr. W galerii można było obejrzeć wystawę 27 artystów pt. „Transformations- works on paper”. Pożegnano też powracającą na stałe do Polski poetkę Władysławę Gozderę.

W piątek, 18 listopada 2011 r. w Galerii Kuriera Plus odbyło się uroczyste otwarcie wystawy pt. “TRANSFORMATIONS”. Po raz pierwszy, wspólnie wystawili swoje prace artyści reprezentujący trzy grupy twórcze: z Nowego Jorku (Emotionalists), z Los Angeles (KrakArt) i z Warszawy (Via Varsovia). By January 7th, 2012, underI promised to write a review about how wonderful i thought the food was at this delightful little Polish cafe / restaurant on Manhattan Ave. I only spent 5 days in New York visiting my drummer friend Sarah Datblygu and 4 of those i spent eating at Marcin and his mother’s place. The reason for this is because the food was amazing!!! Try the fish dish yummy – i had it 3 times! I took my vegan friend there and she loved the potato pancakes. I personally have a deep love of Polish food and my personal favourite is Kotlet, pork or chicken schnitzel with mashed potato and ‘ Surówka’ – side salad, beetroot, white cabbage or carrot… Happy End - 924 Manhattan Ave, (between Java St & Kent St) Brooklyn, NY 11222 Neighborhood: Greenpoint tel (718) 383-9862
Marcin, the owner alongside his mother said that ‘we only serve food that we ourselves have tried and tasted. We only serve food that we know we love!’ The atmosphere is very friendly as well. I didn’t know anybody at all in Greenpoint and because of Marcin’s kind suggestion of going to a special Polish gathering at the Kurier Plus Gallery on Java Street i managed to meet all the most important people from the Polish community and even became featured in the below article about my trip in the Polish Daily News ….

Niedźwiedź Wojtek, żołnierz 2 Korpusu Polskiego,jest głównym bohaterem naszego projektu “W kręgu znaków zodi@ku”. Mimo iż nasz projekt dotyczy różnych aspektów związanych ze znakami zodiaku (mitologii, literatury, sztuki, muzyki) to właśnie konstelacja Wielkiej Niedźwiedzicy pozwoliła nam znaleźć wspólny punkt historii polsko – włoskiej: historię niedźwiedzia Wojtka, który brał udział w Kampanii Włoskiej i w wyzwoleniu Imoli.
Ta przepiękna historia jest stosunkowo mało znana w Polsce i we Włoszech, dlatego jednym z celów naszego projektu jest przybliżenie go jak najszerszemu gronu młodych ludzi, poczynając od naszych uczniów.
Głównym produktem naszego projektu jest komiks edukacyjno – historyczny “Jak niedźwiedź Wojtek został polskim żołnierzem” (Prawdziwa historia niedźwiedzia – żołnierza 2 Korpusu Polskiego), który w atrakcyjny dla młodego czytelnika sposób przedstawia nie tylko dzieje niezwykłego niedźwiedzia Wojtka – żołnierza polskiego, ale i historię walk 2 Korpusu Polskiego we Włoszech od Monte Cassino poprzez Ankonę, linię Gotów i Apenin Emiliański do Bolonii, z podkreśleniem polsko-włoskiego braterstwa broni podczas kampanii włoskiej.
Nasz komiks po raz pierwszy pokazuje prawdziwą historię niedźwiedzia, zwłaszcza jego początków. Powszechnie podawana informacja jakoby to żołnierze 22 Kompanii Zaopatrywania Artylerii kupili misia za kilka puszek konserw od perskiego chłopca jest nieprawdziwa, ponieważ w tym okresie ta jednostka jeszcze nie istniała. Dzięki analizie kroniki 22 KZA oraz listowi pani Ireny Bokiewicz, udało nam się ustalić, iż to ona była pierwszą właścicielką Wojtka.

London based British songwriter Katy Carr has had a fascinating 2011. This year has seen Carr complete two UK tours, the ‘Escapologist’ tour funded by Arts Council England and a solo support tour encompassing ukulele and voice for the Great British Barbershop Boys, and performing to and honouring the 92 year old Auschwitz Escapee and Polish Scout, Kazimierz ‘Kazik’Piechowski who inspired ‘Kommander’s Car’. The song from the ‘Coquette’ album, tells the story of the last 80m of Polish boy scout Kazik’s incredible escape from Auschwitz in 1942 where he dressed in SS uniform and drove out with three other political prisoners in Rudolf Hoss’s car the then camp Commandant.
Championing Kazik through her multi media performances including screenings of the film she produced about the encounter with this incredible piece of history, ‘Kazik and the Kommander’s Car’, has effectively united Polish and British communities by sharing and recognising his brave story. This journey has creatively led her from the inspiration of her English Grandmother, Dorothy Carr , now 98, to examine further her own family history in Poland and record her fourth album ‘Paszport’ inspired by the Polish Partisans of WW2, which will be released in 2012.
Never a Dull Moment in Katy Carr’s world! The year ending with a nomination alongside PJ Harvey, Arctic Monkeys, Laura Marling, The Jim Jones Revue, Metromony, Ed Sheeran and The Unthanks for the London Music Award 2012 is a seemingly apt reward for Carr’s incredible authentic energy.
