Come and Join us celebrate the launch of ‘House of Lalka’ at Sisters and Daughters.
House of Lalka” is a collection of vintage artifacts sourced from the house of Regina Chmurska, a Polish dress maker who survived World War II. She spent a lifetime collecting and making clothes to replace the contents of her crocodile suitcase stolen during the German invasion.
Revived and hand picked by Regina’s Grandaughters, the pieces you see are either original vintage or redesigned inspired by Regina’s signature style. We will be having our own modest section in Sisters and Daughters, and the evening will be a celebtration of Regina, all things vintage, and this opportunity as it was always her dream to have her own shop. We will be having live window displays, music, cupcakes from The Primrose Hill Bakery and Babysham!

OCTOBER 2010
Sunday 31st October
8: 30pm Katy Carr plays Steamboat Bordello The Dixie Queen, Tower Millennium Pier off Lower Thames St London , EC3N 4DT
1840 – 1930 – the heyday of the Mississippi paddle steamer. These floating palaces of sin plied their trade up and down the mighty Mississippi from New Orleans to St Louis.
Specialising in unlicensed gambling, prohibited liquor and transactions of a carnal nature, the pleasure boats were the last bastion of Southern lawlessness. Now, step aboard the majestic Dixie Queen as The Last Days of Decadence brings a little of this lost age to the River Thames. A floating fantasmagoria of rogues, riverboat gamblers, good time girls, snake oil salesmen, fallen southern belles, confederate rifles, yankee doodle dandies, bootleggers, carnies, gypsies, tramps and thieves.
The Steamboat Bordello sets sail with 600 passengers from Tower Pier at 5pm sharp on Sunday 31st October, passing through Tower Bridge (opened especially for the occasion) and sailing onwards towards the Thames Barrier before returning to disembark St Katharine Docks at 10pm.
Step on board this Mississppi-style paddle steamer for a vintage night of ‘rogues, riverboat gamblers, good time girls, snake oil salesmen, fallen southern belles, confederate rifles, yankee doodle dandies…’ (you get the picture), recreating the kinds of floating palaces you’d see going down the Miss’ from New Orleans to St Louis. There’ll be live music from The Correspondents, Hot Club of Cowtown and more, with electro-swing and retro beats on the decks from the legendary Gaz Mayall and Lady Luck’s El Nino, plus many more cabaret antics from Dusty Limits, Fancy Chance, Ophelia Bitz, Katy Carr, Ruby Blues and more. You can sit down and have dinner or simply just dance the night away!
