Katy Carr’s Newsletter  Oct/ Nov 2010

Hello from Katy Carr
Firstly thankyou to Poland and to all my Polish friends for making my research trip and concerts in the early part of October so very enjoyable between 1st and 12th October. I spent some days in Warsaw with my album artist designer Susan Burghart. We visited many places of interest and took lots of photos. Susan has a good idea of what I want my next album artwork to look like and I am very excited and pleased.
From Warsaw I was then driven to Bialowieza to my friend Olimpia’s house and was again very well fed and looked after. We ventured into the Białowieża Forest (National Park; Polish: Białowieski Park Narodowy) in Podlaskie Voivodship in Poland at the border with Belarus. This Park is on the UNESCO World Heritage List so it is a very special environmental area. We glimpsed bison grazing, wild boar, many varieties of mushrooms and also the footprints of wolves.
Above is a photo of my performance at Olimpia’s house and in fact at her first campaign meeting to become Mayor of Bialowieza so this is very exciting… [YES WE CAN OLIMPIA!!! X X X]
Currently I am in the middle of writing a new album for release in the Spring 2011 — more news on this in the forthcoming months suffice to say that the themes will lean heavily towards a cross cultural emphasis from both my Polish and British blood.
I did visit Kazik in Gdansk and sang at his 92nd birthday party. I will be releasing extracts for you to hear of this wonderful celebration. I can confirm that Kazik will be visiting the UK in March 2011 so this is very exciting news! For those of you who do not know of Mr. Kazimierz Piechowski — his story of escape from Auschwitz inspired a song I wrote called Kommander’s Car and a film called ‘Kazik and The Kommander’s Car,’

The trailer for our film can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjAaZ2CJz4k

Come and Join us celebrate the launch of ‘House of Lalka’ at Sisters and Daughters.
House of Lalka” is a collection of vintage artifacts sourced from the house of Regina Chmurska, a Polish dress maker who survived World War II. She spent a lifetime collecting and making clothes to replace the contents of her crocodile suitcase stolen during the German invasion.
Revived and hand picked by Regina’s Grandaughters, the pieces you see are either original vintage or redesigned inspired by Regina’s signature style.  We will be having our own modest section in Sisters and Daughters, and the evening will be a celebtration of Regina, all things vintage, and this opportunity as it was always her dream to have her own shop. We will be having live window displays, music, cupcakes from The Primrose Hill Bakery and Babysham!

There’ll be live music from The Correspondents, Hot Club of Cowtown and more, with electro-swing and retro beats on the decks from the legendary Gaz Mayall and Lady Luck’s El Nino, plus many more cabaret antics from Dusty Limits, Fancy Chance, Ophelia Bitz, Katy Carr, Ruby Blues and more.
