Thanks to all those who attended our ‘Escapologist Tour date’ at Rich Mix gig on Friday 13th May 2011. Due to the fact i was the 13th of May and a Friday we owe this excuse to the fact we had to restart the screening of Kazik and the Kommander’s Car 3 times – so apologies – the first was that wires were not in place so no sound was heard, the second was that the screen looked green and thethird time we were lucky the film finally was screened perfectly!

We had a really lovely email from a member of the  audience called Simone and we wanted to share it with you x x x kc please read below

Dear Katy,
I was part of the small audience at the rich mix gig last night just writing to say that I was really touched by the stories that you told through your music and the film.   It’s a breath of fresh air to see such warmth and humanity:  in many ways I thought that you presented your talent as a generous gift.  It was really appreciated – thank you!
Keep up the great work,
best wishes

Global Local continues it’s exploration of London’s global music, this month featuring KATY CARR & THE AVIATORS, as part of her Escapologist Tour, as well as RUTH THEODORE.

KATY CARR – Katy Carr is a London based performer and songwriter who sings, plays a vintage, wurlitzer electronic piano, ukulele and banjolele with her group ‘The Aviators.’ She has self released three albums on her label Deluce Recordings. ‘Screwing Lies,’ 2001 and ‘Passion Play’ 2003 and ‘Coquette’ 2009 which has received no less than 4/5 star reviews in the mainstream and music press during with a 5/5 star review from Music Critic, ‘Quite simply a masterpiece’.
RUTH THEODORE – A singer/songwriter like no other. With words as dangerous as her guitar playing, Ruth Theodore reminds us why songwriting is important in the first place. Refreshingly original and relentlessly imaginative.
DODO – “Aural acid candyfloss” MixMag – The victorian astronaut has been left stranded on the planet, longing to be reunited with the heavens. A lonely figure in a purple smoking jacket and heavy riveted brass helmet, he reclines in a worn leather armchair. His days are spent yearning for astro travel. His nights drag endlessly as he wonders if his only companion, a dodo, is real or man made… “The oddly slinky, hypnotic effect of these tunes endures – seductive, warm, textured ambient electronica.” Bearded Magazine

As a special treat this month Katy Carr will be screening her “Kazik and the Kommander’s Car” documentary as part of the evening’s entertainment.
Kazik’s Story – Kazimierz Piechowski was transported to Auschwitz on the 20th June 1940 for being a Polish scout, then considered part of the Polish Intelligentsia. Exactly two years later, at midday on Saturday June 20th 1942, Kazik escaped from the Nazi concentration camp. He masterminded his way out with three other political prisoners, disguised in SS uniforms, and by appropriating a Steyr 220 car belonging to Rudolf Höss, the then
Commandant of the death camp. Kazik is the only one now left from the four friends who made the escape, who can tell us first hand what happened.
Upon discovering Kazik’s story, songwriter Katy Carr wrote a tribute song,
‘Kommander’s Car,’ from the point of view of Kazik, narrating the last do-or-die 80 metres of his break for freedom. Katy felt compelled to share this song with Kazik, and her meeting with Kazik in Poland has been captured in a short documentary, ‘Kazik and the Kommander’s Car’, directed by Hannah Lovell.
