My godmother was a spitfire ferry pilot, but all I can remember is that she was universally known by the nickname 'Fluff".
I would very much like to know more about her. I wonder if anyone has ever heard of an ATA pilot by that nickname.

My mother was one of these girls. She flew in the same clubs as Amy Johnson before the war and had trained on the Tiger Moth like everyone else. She had logged a number of flights with the ATA and was just about to start ferrying Wellingtons when she was found to be as 'blind as a bat' and grounded. After that she moved to MI6!

Hello Katy - a great site! Wonderful images. Found this post when I was looking for any ATA photos I might have missed. The Whittell book is fascinating. My debut novel 'The Beauty Chorus' about the ATA girls is being published later this year. As you say, truly inspiring women! x
