She flew in the same clubs as Amy Johnson before the war and had trained on the Tiger Moth like everyone else. She had logged a number of flights with the ATA and was just about to start ferrying Wellingtons when she was found to be as 'blind as a bat' and grounded. After that she moved to MI6!
